Planting time

We are starting up our garden this weekend. We hope to do a fruit & vegetable plot about eight feet wide by ten feet long. I want to start small this year because with us just moving in, there's a lot of things to be done to the outside of the house (this May we are repairing our French back doors & redoing some flooring, then painting the exterior of the house) & lots of pruning to do of the rose bushes, not to mention the random hostas in the yard. I'm going to be in paradise!I'm growing herbs, too- maybe some outside- but I'd like most of those to be in pots for easier seasonal transfer. & I love houseplants
Some of what we're planting:
- watermelons
- pumpkins
- tomato
- cabbage
- collards
- lavender
- calendula
- chamomile
- rosemary
- oregano
- basil
- sage
- poppy
- lemon balm
- mints: peppermint, spearmint, wintergreen
I'd love to get a few fruit bearing trees like an apple & a peach.. I'd love a cherry tree but I'm not sure which ones grow well here (SE North Carolina) & if it doesn't flower- I don't want it. Ha. I'm trying (try being the operative word there) to grow a mango & a pineapple. We shall see how those go, I am not holding my breath on the mango..
It's finally warmed up some- 72° right now, with a high of 80° NICE
